چکیده

Tensile tests have been performed at up to five different displacement rates, from about lmm/s to over 20,000mm/s, on braided glass-fibre tubes of both square and circular cross-section and the corresponding force-displacement curves have been derived. In general both the maximum tensile force and the displacement at failure increase with increasing loading rate, implying a greater energy absorbing capability at the higher deformation rates. At all rates of loading the square cross-section tubes support a lower maximum force and fail at a higher overall deformation. Two stages in the failure process are considered, the realignment of the fibres against the resistance of the matrix followed by the tensile failure of the fibres. Both these processes are found to be rate dependent.

Effect of Strain Rate on the Tensile Failure of Woven Reinforced Polyester Resin Composites

Tensile stress-strain curves a r e obtained at s t rain rates of %lo-'+, ~ 1 0 and c1000/s for carbon, Kevlar and glass fibre woven-reinforced polyester resin compos i tes and the variation of modulus, tensile strength and fracture strain with strain rate is determined. A change in the failure mode at the highest strain rates is observed for the glass but not the carbon or Kevlar reinforced com...

Development of Hybrid Braided Composite Rods for Reinforcement and Health Monitoring of Structures

In the present study, core-reinforced braided composite rods (BCRs) were developed and characterized for strain sensing capability. A mixture of carbon and glass fibre was used in the core, which was surrounded by a braided cover of polyester fibres. Three compositions of core with different carbon fibre/glass fibre weight ratios (23/77, 47/53, and 100/0) were studied to find out the optimum co...

The effect of temperature and strain rate on elongation to failure in nanostructured Al-0.2wt% Zr alloy fabricated by ARB process

A nano/ultra-fine grain Al-0.2wt% Zr alloy was produced by accumulated roll bonding (ARB) processafter 10 cycles. The fraction of high angle grain boundaries increased from 8% to 65.4% during 10passes during ARB process. This alloy was subjected to tensile test at different temperatures (523,573and 623 K) and strain rates (0.1 and 0.01 s-1). The optimum condition of temperature and strain rate ...

Creep Behavior of Basalt and Glass Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Composites

The creep behavior of basalt fiber reinforced epoxy (BFRE) and glass fiber reinforced epoxy (GFRE) composites was studied through tensile testing at high temperature. To study the effect of reinforcing epoxy, the micro glass powder (MGP) was added at various volume percentage into the epoxy resin in BFRE composites. The initial strain for all the specimens were evaluated and compared with each ...
